Parliamentary Candidate Ricardo’s Campaign Event in San Jose

On September 7th, Sam Liccardo, the candidate for the 16th District of California in the United States House of Representatives, held a family visit kick-off ceremony at his campaign headquarters in San Jose. Dozens of volunteers participated in knocking on doors, with many of them being young people.

The campaign headquarters was bustling even before 8:30 in the morning, adorned with Liccardo’s campaign signs and yellow-blue balloons. Various snacks and beverages were prepared for everyone, and there were games like a prize wheel and cornhole set up to add fun to the event.

In the front yard, volunteers lined up to register for the family visit activity in an orderly manner.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan attended the event to support Liccardo. He stated that Liccardo has been dedicated to improving the efficiency of municipal services and has been brave in standing up against special interests, a courage that is especially important in Washington.

Liccardo thanked everyone for their support, emphasizing that the campaign should not just be about slogans but should involve genuine dialogue to discuss ways to solve issues. He mentioned the need to learn more effective communication and encouraged everyone to continue knocking on more doors until the last moment of November 5th.

Former President of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in the San Francisco Bay Area, Zhou Xinjie, mentioned that many Taiwanese and Chinese people support Liccardo because of his moderate stance and friendliness towards the Taiwanese and Chinese communities, as well as his ability to integrate different opinions and propose viable solutions. He also revealed that on September 21st, the Taiwanese and Chinese communities will hold a Liccardo family forum where Liccardo will personally explain his governance philosophy. Interested individuals are welcomed to attend. Contact number: 510-648-7198.

The 16th District covers Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Redwood City, and a part of San Jose in Silicon Valley. The current Congresswoman for the 16th District is Anna Eshoo, who has represented the district since 1993 but has announced that she will not seek reelection in 2024.

Currently, the two candidates participating in the November runoff are both Democrats. Liccardo’s opponent is Evan Low, who has received an endorsement from the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, hoping Low can become the “first LGBTQ person elected to Congress in the Bay Area.”

Liccardo has received support from the New Democrat Coalition in the House of Representatives. The coalition advocates for a pragmatic and moderate position and seeks to promote realistic reforms in the face of political polarization. ◇
