Russian train carrying over 400 people derails, at least 7 injured

Russian officials announced on Friday (April 3) that a passenger train carrying 415 people derailed in the Ulyanovsk region, about 559 miles (900 kilometers) from Moscow, with at least 7 people injured, including a child.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, Russian Railways (RZD) confirmed that seven carriages of the train derailed near the Bryandino station in the Ulyanovsk region.

The incident occurred at 6:26 a.m. Moscow time on Friday. The train involved was the 302nd passenger train traveling from Chelyabinsk to Moscow.

After the train derailed, six out of the seven derailed carriages overturned, with passengers reportedly escaping through the windows.

Emergency response teams, personnel from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and three rescue trains have been dispatched to the scene of the accident.

Preliminary data from the Ulyanovsk Health Department’s press office indicates that seven people were injured in the accident, including one child.

Russian Railways stated that passengers of the derailed train are entitled to compensation from the SOGAZ insurance company.
