Train from Guilin to Zhuhai experiences power outage, stuck in tunnel for several hours

On the afternoon of March 29th, a train with the number D3665 heading from Guilin North to Zhuhai was trapped in a tunnel between Foshan and Guangzhou South Station due to severe rain and tornado weather in Guangzhou. The train lost power, leaving passengers trapped in the carriages for over three hours without air conditioning.

According to a passenger who shared a video, the train had been stuck in a tunnel about 43 kilometers away from Guangzhou South Station since 2:30 PM that day. After over three hours, everyone was deprived of oxygen, some passengers even fainted, and children were crying from the heat. Only after some time did someone come out to address the situation, promising a quick resolution, but without specifying the waiting time.

In the video, a woman questioned, “It has been over three hours, and only now you are talking to the driver to come up with a solution. Do you really not value people’s lives?”

Around 4:45 PM that day, a female passenger on the train recounted the incident to Extreme Vision News. She explained that around 2 PM, the train passed Foshan Station and stopped suddenly after entering a tunnel, with the carriages losing all power. The train announcement cited a power failure due to a fault ahead.

The passenger mentioned how stiflingly hot it was inside the carriages, with children crying from the heat. However, the train staff didn’t allow passengers to disembark or break windows, claiming they were waiting for instructions from the train conductor.

According to a comment left by a passenger in the video area, it took four hours before they were finally allowed to disembark.

An announcement from Guangzhou Railway stated that around 3 PM, due to the impact of heavy rain and tornadoes, there was a fault in the catenary system between Guangzhou South and Foshan West Station on the Nanguang High-Speed Railway and Guiguang High-Speed Railway, as well as debris on the catenary system between Foshan and Liwan on the Guangzhan High-Speed Railway, causing varying delays for some trains.

Subsequently, Guangzhou Railway posted on Weibo that the catenary system had been cleared of debris on the Guangzhan High-Speed Railway at 6:12 PM, and on the Nanguang and Guiguang High-Speed Railways at 6:35 PM, with power restored and train transport gradually resuming.
