US man falls into icy cave while ice fishing on a frozen lake, is rescued by neighbors using paddles.

In a recent incident in Racine County, Wisconsin, a man was fishing on the frozen surface of a lake when he accidentally fell into an ice hole. Fortunately, several neighbors heard his cries for help and promptly used a paddleboard to rescue him. He was later taken to the hospital for examination and is not in danger.

According to reports from Associated Press, the incident occurred on January 24 near Tichigan Lake. When local resident Michael Mossman heard someone calling for help outside his home, he immediately dialed 911 and used his paddleboard along with other neighbors to pull the man out from the icy water.

Mossman told WISN TV that this was not the first time he had rescued someone from a frozen lake. He warned people to stay away from the area as conditions there are constantly changing.

Firefighters confirmed that the rescued man was taken to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. They mentioned that he was wearing a life jacket when he fell into the water, which helped keep his head above the surface.

Tichigan Fire Department Captain Mike Borchardt emphasized the importance of remembering that no ice surface is completely safe, urging those engaging in ice activities to prepare for the worst-case scenario.

Moving on to a similar incident in New York, a father and son recently fell through thin ice on a pond but were luckily rescued by another father and son.

According to WCBS TV, Bradley Fils-Aime, a high school student in Nesconset, New York, heard cries for help on January 25 during a snowstorm and spotted people in the pond beside his home. He and his father immediately called 911 for help and went to the ice to assist in the rescue.

By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the trapped father and son had already been rescued.

Nesconset Fire Department Captain Daniel Madden explained that the father and son were hiking when they got stuck in the ice hole, mistakenly believing the pond’s ice was solid enough to walk on.

He cautioned, “We have many ponds here, never walk on the ice, especially when it’s covered with snow… You can never predict what might happen.”

The father and son were taken to the hospital for treatment of hypothermia. Meanwhile, the Fils-Aime duo expressed relief that they were able to extend a helping hand in time to prevent a tragedy.

BBC reports that frozen water poses serious dangers as it may appear more solid than it actually is. It is advised not to test its thickness as falling into an ice hole is a real risk.

The temperature of icy water is low enough to cause suffocation and numbness, making swimming impossible. This puts individuals at risk of hypothermia and drowning.

For safety near frozen water bodies, consider the following tips:

– Stay away from the water’s edge as branches and leaves may obscure the boundaries.
– Keep your dog on a leash to prevent them from venturing onto the ice, as rescuing them poses risks to both parties.
– Always stay with friends or family in case of emergencies.
– If you witness someone in distress in cold water, remain calm, call for help, and provide accurate information about your location.
– Avoid taking unnecessary risks on ice, as it may lead to dangerous situations without nearby rescue personnel available.
