In recent days, a 53-year-old woman in Quwo, Shanxi Province went to a local dental clinic to have dental implants. However, the doctor ended up extracting 12 teeth in one go, leading to a heart attack and shock, and she was rushed to the ICU for treatment.
According to reports from media outlets such as Cover News, the woman’s son, Mr. Han, stated on January 22nd that on the 17th of last month, his mother, accompanied by family members, visited the Song X Rong Dental Clinic in Quwo for dental implants due to loose upper teeth. Before the extraction, the mother underwent an electrocardiogram, blood pressure, blood routine, and other examinations as required, with the results showing no issues before the tooth extraction began.
“We didn’t know that all teeth would be removed in one afternoon,” Mr. Han said. Prior to the surgery, the doctor informed them that the upper teeth of the mother needed to be removed, to be done in multiple separate sessions, and had the family sign a consent form. The surgery lasted for over two hours. It was only after the procedure that they learned from the mother that the doctor at the time had only said three teeth would be extracted.
Mr. Han mentioned that after the teeth were extracted, his mother’s jaw dislocated and couldn’t close properly, feeling unwell overall. She was immediately rushed to the county hospital by calling 120.
After receiving an electrocardiogram at the county hospital, Mr. Han’s mother was diagnosed with an acute heart attack. The hospital then scheduled her for a cardiac catheterization surgery, as blood thinners were needed for the procedure. Mr. Han mentioned, “After the blood thinners were administered, my mother’s tooth extraction wound started bleeding uncontrollably. Initially following the doctor’s advice to swallow it, she later couldn’t bear it, started vomiting blood, and fell into a coma.”
Upon the doctor’s recommendation, Mr. Han’s mother was transferred to a higher-level hospital for emergency treatment due to excessive blood loss, entering the ICU. Fortunately, she survived the ordeal, but her current physical condition is very poor, unable to stand on her own, requiring round-the-clock care.
In response to this incident, officials from the health department of Quwo County stated that they have sealed all medical records and imaging data of the clinic involved and are currently handling the matter.
