Trump: Gaza will be demilitarized and rebuilt.

On January 22, 2026, President Trump held a ceremony for the establishment of the “Peace Committee” in Davos, where he expressed the United States’ commitment to ensuring the demilitarization of Gaza and its “great reconstruction.” During the launch of the “Peace Committee,” Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, revealed the next phase of the U.S. Gaza plan.

“I have made it very clear that Hamas must return the remains of the last hostage, only then can their commitment be considered fulfilled. After that, we will proceed to address other issues and ensure the demilitarization of Gaza, proper governance, and its reconstruction,” President Trump said.

The “Peace Committee” initiated by Trump on Thursday is a key step in the U.S. Gaza peace plan to achieve demilitarization and reconstruction of Gaza. President Trump emphasized that the Peace Committee might play a broader role in resolving international conflicts in the future.

Trump serves as the chairman of the “Peace Committee” and has invited dozens of world leaders to join.

“I believe that as we succeed in Gaza, we can expand our work to other areas. We will be very successful in Gaza. This will be something worth paying attention to, and we can do more things,” Trump said. “We can do many other things. Once the committee is fully formed, we can almost do whatever we want and we will collaborate with the United Nations… I have always said that the United Nations has great potential, but it hasn’t been used.”

With the launch of the Peace Committee, Jared Kushner, the U.S. Gaza negotiation representative, announced the next phase of Trump’s Gaza plan on Thursday.

“Looking forward, the top priority is security. Obviously, we have been working very closely with Israel to seek ways to ease tensions,” Kushner said. “The next stage is about Gaza demilitarization and engaging with Hamas… but without security assurances, there will be no investments, and no one will come here to build. We need investments to create job opportunities.”

He also stated, “We want to utilize the principles of the free market economy. The practices and approaches President Trump talks about and promotes in the U.S., we also hope to bring the same ideas and ways to places like Gaza, so that people there can thrive and lead good lives.”

“We have developed a plan for rebuilding Gaza. As President Trump said, Gaza has great potential. All of this is for the people of Gaza. We have delineated regions,” he said. “Hamas has signed an agreement to achieve demilitarization, and we will enforce it. Some ask us if we have a Plan B, we do not have a Plan B.”

Kushner added, “Demilitarization is what we are beginning to work on now. Gaza has a new government. This government will engage with Hamas to achieve demilitarization and truly implement the various principles agreed upon in the next phase.”

“Many countries have been very generous, and we will convene the first meeting in Washington in a few weeks, where we will announce many donations,” he added.
