On January 21st, the second day of the Seventh NTD Worldwide Realistic Portrait Oil Painting Contest, two selected artists were invited to paint on-site. One of them is American artist Ken Corbertt, selected for his paintings “The Widow’s Offering” and “Metamorphosis Mountain”; and the other is Slovenian artist Nik Anikis, selected for his painting “The Sacred Creator”.
The judges, numerous artists, and audience witnessed how the two artists created vivid portraits out of a blank canvas. Many participating artists observed on-site, with some even recording every moment of the artists’ brushstrokes. People praised both artists as “skilled realist painters”.
Chinese artist Chang Lu, often selected with her painting “The Bride”, noted the difference between working in her studio and on-site. She praised both artists’ performances in a short time, emphasizing their strong foundation.
French writer Alain Amar, who watched the event, praised the artists’ artistry and conveyed the powerful messages in their works within a short time.
NTD Contest Director Lucy Zhou explained the selection of these two artists for on-site painting, emphasizing their technical skills and depth of their works.
Zhou described Ken Corbertt’s “The Widow’s Offering” as a portrayal of pure dedication to God. She mentioned Nik’s “The Sacred Creator” as a work of upward faith in God.
After five days of applause, the two artists completed their paintings, bringing to life a young boy and girl on paper.
Ken Corbertt expressed that the day’s creativity was a bit more challenging than expected but was pleased with the outcome. He mentioned the learning experience and potential adjustments for future works.
Nik Anikis appeared more excited and accomplished, expressing his pleasure in participating in the event and collaborating with Ken.
Anikis explained the difference in their painting techniques, with Ken starting from sketch and gradually adding light and color. He contrasted his abstract and gradual process of adding details to achieve the final effect.
Feeling a special positive energy around him, Anikis appreciated the supportive atmosphere and interest from the audience, making the experience unique and rewarding.
The exhibition of selected works will continue until the 24th of January at 6:00 pm.
