Trump willing to pay high price to buy Greenland, security costs even higher.

On Wednesday, January 21st, President Trump attended the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, where the Greenland dispute became a major focus of attention. Trump stated that he is willing to buy Greenland at a high price as the cost of national security would be even greater if military action was excluded.

During his speech at the forum, Trump addressed the Greenland issue, ruling out military options and reassuring investors, leading to a rise in the US stock market.

Following his speech, President Trump met with NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg, once again discussing the Greenland issue. He expressed confusion over the situation in Greenland, emphasizing that his interest in the island is solely for security reasons and not for any other purposes.

Addressing concerns that the US’s interest in Greenland is related to rare earth minerals, Trump highlighted that the US already has significant rare earth resources and that extracting them from Greenland would require digging 25 feet into the ice, a task not many would be willing to undertake.

Trump emphasized that the current focus is on security and dismissed speculations related to minerals.

When asked about the possibility of purchasing Greenland, Trump hinted that he would consider paying for the island.

“I can understand that,” he responded when asked if he would be willing to pay a price for the semi-autonomous territory of Denmark.

“But there is a bigger price, the price of security, national security, I mean international security,” Trump added. “That is the real price, that is the huge price.”

Although Denmark has stated that Greenland is not for sale, Trump reiterated that Greenland must be under US control for increased security, strength, and benefits for both Europe and the US.

When questioned about the consequences for countries opposing his intentions, President Trump evaded giving a direct answer, stating, “You figure it out.”

Earlier in his speech, Trump gave a cryptic response to the issue, saying, “We will remember.”

When a reporter asked, “Mr. President, you said that if Denmark does not agree to the Greenland deal, you will remember, what does that mean? What are the consequences?”

Trump responded by saying, “You figure it out. You’re smart.”

The discussions and exchanges during the World Economic Forum regarding the potential purchase of Greenland by the US have stirred international attention and speculation on the implications for national security and global diplomacy. The complex dynamics surrounding this issue highlight the intricate geopolitical landscape and the strategic interests at play in the Arctic region.
