Beijing Company’s Legal Department Caught Stealing Cherries from Supermarket After Work

Recent days, a supermarket employee in Beijing’s Chaoyang District reported that cherries were frequently stolen from the store. Surprisingly, the culprit turned out to be a well-paid corporate lawyer, who has now been detained by the police.

According to Xinjing News, surveillance footage showed the woman selectively opening packaged boxes in secluded areas of the store, pouring the cherries into her personal bag, while still purchasing other items normally at the checkout counter in an attempt to avoid suspicion. “We have caught her engaging in this behavior more than once,” said Mr. Wang, the supermarket’s manager.

The woman often shopped at the supermarket near her home. About a month ago, she noticed that the total cost of her groceries seemed cheaper than expected. Upon checking the receipt, she found a missing price tag in her shopping bag. She had not noticed it at the checkout and neither had the cashier or the store security alarm gone off as she exited, indicating that the item had not been paid for.

After discovering this loophole, she continued to shop at the supermarket several times, taking pre-weighed cherries from the store to a less crowded aisle, removing the price tags, and discreetly placing them into her prepared bag.

To disguise her theft, she would purchase some items normally while the supermarket staff never checked the bag she carried with her. She escalated from stealing a small box of blueberries on the first occasion to three boxes of cherries, a papaya, assorted loose dried fruits, and biscuits. By the time the supermarket discovered the theft, she had stolen six times.

Following the incident, the woman voluntarily offered to compensate the store in a “one-to-ten” ratio, hoping for forgiveness from the supermarket.

This incident has sparked discussions among netizens and has become a hot topic online.

“Always play with fire until you get burned”: The woman involved lacks a sense of moral conscience and sooner or later would face consequences, it’s quite typical.

If others do not expose you, it could be an opportunity given to you, or a deliberate trap. When punishment indeed strikes, you won’t be able to bear the consequences.

Some netizens also commented, “If you walk by the river often, you will eventually get your shoes wet.”
