The 41st Golden Mountain Bay Area Chinese Sports Convention held its “3rd Preparatory Meeting for the 2025 Chinese Sports Convention” on the evening of January 13th (Tuesday) at the South Bay Overseas Education Center, and conducted the election of the Chairman for the 42nd convention. The incumbent chairman, Chen Ligong, received unanimous support from all members and was re-elected on the spot with applause.
Dignitaries present that evening included Director Zhuang Yashu, Executive Advisor Lu Yuzhen, Secretary-General Su Beilin, Finance Minister Li Xinbing, and several dozen convention members. The meeting first confirmed the agenda of the 3rd preparatory meeting for the 41st convention, as well as the minutes of the 2nd meeting of the 11th convention, both of which were proposed and passed unanimously after voting.
Chairman Chen Ligong, in his speech, thanked Director Zhuang Yashu and her team for providing solid support in funding applications and documentation over the past year, assisting in the smooth completion of outcome reports and fund disbursement. He emphasized that the achievements of the Chinese Sports Convention are the result of teamwork and volunteer dedication, and cannot be accomplished by one person alone, commending each event coordinator.
Director Zhuang Yashu, in her address, acknowledged everyone’s hard work over the past year. She stated that the Chinese Sports Convention has, over the years, united overseas Chinese communities through sports events, while also encouraging mainstream community participation, allowing more people to understand the overseas Chinese community and its spirit of freedom and democracy. She also reviewed the challenges faced by the current convention, such as venue adjustments, fundraising, and event coordination. The unprecedented grand opening ceremony attracted over 6,000 participants, more than a hundred teams, and left a deep impression on exchange students from Taiwan, who continue to share their experiences at the convention on social media after returning to Taiwan.
During his reelection speech, Chen Ligong thanked the support and encouragement of volunteers and the team, stating that he will continue to cooperate in organizing various activities of the Chinese Sports Convention in the future. He expressed hope to invite the newly appointed Director, Wu Zhixiang, to participate and witness the achievements of the convention together.
Chen Ligong also expressed to Dajiyuan that this year, activities will be expanded on the existing foundation, and efforts will be made to recruit younger generations to participate in the preparations and competitions, injecting new vitality into the convention and attracting more participants from other ethnic groups to learn about the Chinese community and Taiwan through sports. Regarding the event items, he mentioned plans to resume Pickleball matches and line dancing, with other new events still under further planning. He also encouraged overseas Chinese to actively participate, emphasizing that regardless of skill level, the focus should be on enjoying sports, promoting health, and happiness.
Executive advisor Lu Yuzhen also expressed to Dajiyuan her hope for continued unity and cooperation in order to fully support and work together to achieve outstanding results at this year’s Chinese Sports Convention.
