Jiangxi Huangcheng Town’s Tap Water Turns Yellow and Turbid for a Long Time, Officials Shift Blame

Residents of Huangcheng Town, Fengcheng City, Jiangxi Province have been facing long-term issues with their tap water, which is often discolored and murky, sometimes even containing tadpoles. Local residents recently raised this ongoing problem to the media.

According to a report by Da Jiang News on January 20th, residents of Huangcheng Town in Fengcheng City posted complaints on the “Questioning Governance in Jiangxi” column, highlighting the persistent problem of murky and discolored domestic water, often containing a large amount of impurities. Many believe that such water quality does not meet drinking standards, and this issue has remained unresolved for years.

Since 2023, residents of Huangcheng Town in Fengcheng City have been plagued by this issue. They have repeatedly reported the situation to relevant departments, but the responses have often cited reasons such as “pipeline damage” and “rainy day impacts,” without presenting effective solutions.

In response to residents’ concerns about water quality, officials from the Fengcheng City government explained that the water supply coverage of Huangcheng Town’s water plant extends over an area of 80 square kilometers. Some users are located more than 10 kilometers away from the water plant, and some villages are situated in low-lying areas, where sediment easily accumulates in the pipelines, leading to the presence of impurities in the water.

Additionally, the significant difference in water flow between peak and off-peak periods in the town can also result in intermittent turbidity in the water quality. Recently, as the town progresses with agricultural construction, damages to the water supply pipelines during construction have caused sediment infiltration into the pipeline network, contributing to the murky water quality issue among others.

This ongoing challenge has not only affected the daily lives of residents but also raised concerns about the overall water quality standards in the region. Efforts are being made to address the root causes of the problem and provide a sustainable solution to ensure clean and safe drinking water for the residents of Huangcheng Town in Fengcheng City, Jiangxi Province.
