Over 100 High School Students in Foshan, Guangdong Infected with Novel Coronavirus

In recent days, many students at Huadaxinghui Senior High School in Foshan, Guangdong Province have been infected with the Norovirus, exhibiting symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. As of 8:00 on the 17th, a total of 103 cases of Norovirus infection have been reported at the school.

On January 15th, a parent of a student at Huadaxinghui Senior High School in Sanshui District, Foshan City, revealed that many students at the school were experiencing symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea and had sought emergency medical care at a hospital.

A senior high school student mentioned that classmates in their class began vomiting on the night of the 14th, with the student themselves starting to vomit on the afternoon of the 15th. They, along with five other students showing similar symptoms, went to the emergency department at the Zhujiang Hospital Sanshui Clinic in the afternoon of the same day.

According to the public bulletin released by Huadaxinghui Senior High School, preliminary investigations by the disease control department suggest that the outbreak is caused by the Norovirus. As of 5:30 pm on January 15th, there were a total of 74 cases of Norovirus infection at the school, with 17 confirmed by lab tests and 57 diagnosed clinically. The affected students have been isolated and are receiving treatment, with most of them showing signs of improvement.

Officials from the Sanshui District stated that as of 8:00 on the 17th, there have been a total of 103 cases of Norovirus infection at the school, with no critical or fatal cases reported.

The Norovirus is a common pathogen that causes acute gastroenteritis, mainly spread through the fecal-oral route. Symptoms of infection often include vomiting and diarrhea.
