911 Call Recording Helps Florida Police Find Missing 11-Year-Old Boy

On Tuesday, January 13, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in Florida released a 911 call recording that helped locate a missing 11-year-old boy. Investigators revealed that the arrested suspect, Darnell Hairston, had imprisoned the boy for three days, bound him with an extension cord, and subjected him to abuse.

The authorities intercepted Hairston’s truck. Hairston, a registered sex offender, was found with a 15-year-old boy and the missing 11-year-old boy in his truck. Eventually, both Hairston and the 15-year-old boy were arrested and faced charges. The 15-year-old boy was charged with driving the truck, hitting a police car, and fleeing the scene.

A 911 call made this arrest operation possible. The caller informed the dispatcher that there was a pedophile in a truck with two children, one of whom was a runaway.

“Sir, where are you?” the dispatcher inquired.

“He is coming along Highway 1, his name is Hairston…”

The caller mentioned recognizing Hairston, being aware of his criminal record as a sex offender, and coincidentally spotting him on the road with two underage boys in his vehicle, which prompted the 911 call.

“How do you know this person?” the dispatcher asked.

“Well, he is a pedophile in our community, and two kids have gone missing. He’s got two teenagers in the back of his truck,” the caller replied.

The caller started trailing the truck along Highway 1. Despite the dispatcher advising against continuing the pursuit, the caller persisted, stating he wouldn’t back down until law enforcement intercepted Hairston.

Officers swiftly located the truck and, after a struggle, placed Hairston in handcuffs. As of Tuesday night, Hairston remained in custody at the Flagler County Jail.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) and numerous other law enforcement agencies advise the public not to confront suspects directly as it may pose a danger while gathering information, including tracking suspect vehicles. However, the police department commended the courageous caller, acknowledging that without the timely report, locating the missing teenager and apprehending the suspects might have been much more challenging.
