Since the beginning of the year 2026, unusual noises have been reported in multiple areas in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province and Zhoukou, Henan Province, sparking hot discussions online.
On the evening of January 14th, several netizens posted that there was an abnormal noise in Zhoukou, Henan Province, describing it as feeling like an earthquake with repeated tremors shaking doors and windows.
According to reports from Jimo News, around 10 p.m. that night, several local residents in Zhoukou were contacted, stating that the strange noises occurred around 6:10 p.m. on the 14th, with several consecutive tremors. Some villagers even ran out to the streets to check the situation.
A resident of Shangshui County in Zhoukou, Mr. Chen (pseudonym), mentioned, “The tremors were very clear, and people here all said it felt like an earthquake. The windows were shaking violently, and relatives called to warn us, saying their windows were shaking similarly and quite severely for a few seconds. There was another instance around 9:40 p.m.”
Another local villager in Zhoukou stated, “At that time, both the glass doors and windows were shaking, so I quickly got out of bed and went outside to see, and many people in the village had come out discussing the recent noise, unsure if it was an earthquake.”
A woman named Na, who runs a business selling cage nets in Zhoukou, provided surveillance video from her shop showing a loud noise at around 6:09 p.m., causing the rolling shutter door to shake. Na mentioned that the actual noise was louder than in the video, causing a bit of panic at the time.
Similar situations were reported in surrounding cities of Zhoukou, with netizens from Zhumadian in Henan and Fuyang in Anhui mentioning hearing unusual noises in the evening.
Checking with the China Earthquake Networks Center for designated areas like Zhoukou, Zhumadian, and Fuyang, it was reported that no earthquakes of magnitude 3 or higher had occurred in the past week.
On the night of January 14th around 11 p.m., contacting the Zhoukou municipal government, the staff on duty stated they had not received any earthquake reports, and the source of the unusual noises was unknown. Officials from the Zhoukou Emergency Management Bureau mentioned they did not have more information at the moment.
In recent years, mysterious loud noises have been frequently reported in various parts of mainland China, with the authorities not providing convincing explanations, leading to speculation and concerns.

Many households experienced buzzing windows and slight swaying of chandeliers. In the Suzhou Industrial Park, during a training session with 12 employees, a loud noise lasting about two seconds was heard, causing a colleague’s pen to fall off the desk. They quickly took precautions and then checked outside but did not see flames or smell anything unusual.
Following the loud noises, many netizens expressed concerns about whether it was an earthquake, gas leakage, or an industrial accident.
On December 30th last year, discussions about “unexplained loud noises in Xinyang, Henan” surged on social media, sparking debates.
On the morning of December 27th last year, a loud noise with pronounced tremors shook Chengdu, Sichuan, attracting city-wide attention.
On September 12th last year, mysterious loud noises rattled several areas in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, with residents reporting shaking houses and glass windows, initially thinking it was an earthquake. Local officials, however, stated they had not received any related reports.
