The government has also taken measures to cut off the national internet access in order to prevent protesters from communicating with each other and to hinder the spread of videos and photos documenting the crackdown to foreign outlets.
At the same time, the United States is carefully assessing the situation in Iran and considering potential options. The Iranian leadership has reached out to the US for negotiations, and both sides are currently working on arranging a meeting. It appears that direct US military intervention in Iran is unlikely in the immediate future.
