The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) today pointed out that during the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to several African countries, including Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Lesotho, China has been spreading serious misinformation that infringes on Taiwan’s sovereignty. The Ministry stated that China’s repeated dissemination of false information on the international stage has seriously challenged the international order and peace, exposing China’s nefarious nature of interfering in the affairs of other countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China issued a press release today, emphasizing that during Wang Yi’s visit from the 8th to the 11th of January, he continued to disregard objective historical facts, reiterated the so-called “One China Principle,” and distorted and spread serious misinformation that infringes on Taiwan’s sovereignty.
The Ministry reaffirmed that Taiwan is a sovereign and independent country, and any attempts to falsely portray Taiwan as part of another country’s territory are erroneous and unacceptable. China’s continuous dissemination of false information through threats, inducement, and verbal manipulation on the international stage has seriously challenged the international order and peace, revealing its nefarious nature of interfering in the affairs of other countries through authoritarian means, which should be highly regarded by all nations.
The Ministry emphasized that Taiwan has long been dedicated to assisting like-minded African countries in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, with tangible results. It called on all countries to uphold principles of sovereignty, independence, and rational judgment to promote international exchange and cooperation, which is the path to long-term prosperity and benefit for all. Taiwan is willing to continue deepening friendly cooperation with all African countries that respect sovereignty, equality, and uphold principles of mutual cooperation to advance the well-being of the people and society together.
The Ministry clarified that “Taiwan’s sovereignty belongs to all Taiwanese people, and only the people of Taiwan can determine its future. As a benevolent force in the international community, Taiwan will continue to uphold the values of freedom and democracy and safeguard our national sovereignty.” The Ministry also urged and welcomed like-minded countries that defend democratic values to cooperate in full force to curb authoritarian expansion and make more contributions to the sustainable development of Africa and the international community.
Furthermore, the Ministry pointed out that the Foreign Minister of Somalia, during a phone call with Wang Yi, mistakenly described the so-called “Taiwan-related issues as entirely China’s domestic affairs.” The Ministry expressed strong protest and condemnation towards this statement and expressed great regret for countries that pander to China’s absurd positions.
