On January 9, 2026, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Raymond Greene met with Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Wu, to discuss further enhancing the rock-solid Taiwan-U.S. partnership.
In an official Facebook post, AIT mentioned that Director Greene and Foreign Minister Wu met on the 7th to kick off 2026 and discuss ways to further strengthen the enduring Taiwan-U.S. partnership.
During the meeting, they explored new initiatives in diplomatic and economic fields, with the hope of moving towards a safer, stronger, and more prosperous future for the United States, Taiwan, and their global partners.
Minister Wu expressed gratitude to Director Greene for the invitation to a meaningful lunch meeting where they exchanged views on advancing Taiwan-U.S. cooperation.
He emphasized the mutual desire to continue promoting exchanges between Taiwan and the U.S. across various sectors and to solidify their rock-solid partnership by deepening cooperation in the economic field.
Looking ahead to 2026, Minister Wu stated that Taiwan remains committed to contributing to regional peace and stability and collaborating with global democratic partners like the United States to safeguard peace and promote prosperity.
Furthermore, AIT mentioned that Director Raymond Greene also met with the Speaker of the Legislative Yuan, Han Kuo-yu, and the Vice Speaker, Eric Chu, on the 7th to celebrate the new year and discuss how the U.S. and Taiwan can work together to strengthen cooperation in security, economic development, and people-to-people exchanges.
