On January 8th (Thursday), the Market Supervision and Administration Bureau of Liaoning Province, announced regulations requiring that for rural gatherings with over 100 attendees, the organizer must report to the township three working days prior to the event. Additionally, the dishes served must be kept for inspection and refrigerated for 48 hours. This news quickly became a hot topic and sparked discussions online.
According to a report from Liaoning Daily on January 8th, the Market Supervision and Administration Bureau of Liaoning Province issued a “Food Safety Risk Reminder for Rural Collective Dining.” The regulations include ten articles covering various aspects such as the venue, participants, qualifications of chefs, and selection of ingredients.
One of the regulations, Article 2, stipulates that for rural gatherings with over 100 attendees, the organizer must report the date, location, number of attendees, menu, etc., to the market supervision department of the township (street) three working days before the event, and the rural chefs should be promptly registered.
Furthermore, Article 8 states that for rural collective dining with over 100 people in attendance, the food must be kept for inspection. The organizer should pack the sampled food by variety in sealed containers, with each variety not less than 125 grams, and refrigerate for 48 hours.
The regulations also provide a hotline for reporting violations.
Following the announcement of these regulations, netizens expressed their concerns and opinions. Some supported the regulations, with user “herolifeng” stating, “Being prepared is good; in case of widespread food poisoning, the samples can be directly used for testing to determine responsibility.”
However, many others opposed the regulations, believing they are unnecessary and overly restrictive.
User “悠長假期W” questioned, “Is there any scientific basis for this?”
User “頭Yunnan” described the regulations as “an unnecessary act.”
Another netizen raised a practical issue, with “lieuky” questioning, “Who will supervise? Will they be dining on site? How will the meal portions be determined?”
User “joyzhang2022” humorously remarked, “In the future, we can only invite 99 people first and then invite the rest two days later.”
This move by the Market Supervision and Administration Bureau of Liaoning Province has stirred up discussions online, with a mix of support and opposition from netizens.
