Flights on Mainland China Routes Discounted to as Low as 90% Off After New Year’s Day

Following the end of the New Year holiday and the arrival of both natural and economic winter, the demand for air travel in mainland China has significantly decreased. To cope with this, many airlines have lowered their ticket prices, with discounts on some routes reaching as low as 10% off.

For example, in Guangzhou, on January 7th, the lowest fare for a flight from Guangzhou to Shanghai was 210 yuan (excluding taxes), with a discount of approximately 10%.

According to news from Nanjing, ticket prices for flights from Nanjing to Shenyang, Changchun, Xichang, Xishuangbanna, Jieyang, and other routes have seen reductions of over 50%. For some routes towards Tongliao, Xilin Gol and others, flights with a 90% discount have even been spotted.

In Sichuan, it was reported that ticket prices for multiple routes departing from Chengdu have experienced a significant drop. In the upcoming month, prices for flights from Chengdu have seen reductions to as low as 10-20% off.

For instance, the lowest fare from Chengdu to Guilin, Enshi, Lijiang, Hangzhou and other destinations is around 200 yuan; for destinations including Dali, Xi’an, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guiyang, Hefei, Shenyang, Lhasa and nearly 20 other cities, most one-way ticket prices do not exceed 300 yuan.

On January 8th, a reporter from Dajiyuan checked flight tickets from Guangzhou to Beijing on mainland booking platform Ctrip for January 9th. Economy class tickets for China Southern Airlines were discounted to 21% off, while economy class tickets for Southern Airlines and Eastern Airlines were discounted to 18% and 16% off respectively.

Due to the continued decrease in air ticket prices, related topics quickly became hot search items on the internet. Many netizens have expressed that the current period is a perfect timing for “picking up bargains” and traveling during off-peak seasons.
