Fishing Boat Capsizes off Hainan, 5 Rescued, 1 Missing

A fishing boat capsized in the sea off Hainan in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, with 6 people aboard. Among them, 5 were rescued while 1 person tragically lost their life.

A video circulating online shows the boat overturned in the sea, with 5 people standing on the hull waiting for rescue as another fishing boat approaches the scene to provide assistance.

According to family members of the boat’s owner, the incident occurred on the morning of January 5th. One crew member went missing and was later found deceased, with the body transported to a funeral home.

An official from the fisheries department in Xuwen County revealed that the capsized boat was a fishing vessel with a crew of 6 people. 5 were rescued, while 1 perished in the accident.

The official mentioned that the boat belonged to Xuwen and was operating in Hainan. The exact cause of the capsizing is currently unknown.

Authorities in Wenchang City, Hainan, confirmed that the boat involved was from Zhanjiang, with “5 rescued individuals and 1 fatality, all already returned to Zhanjiang.”
