The Taiwan Air Force Command announced today (6th) that an F-16 single-seat fighter jet (tail number 6700) from the Hualien Base, piloted by Captain Xin, took off at 6:17 pm to carry out a routine training mission. At 7:29 pm, it was suspected to have parachuted off the east coast of Fengbin Township, Hualien County, 10 nautical miles away. The Air Force immediately set up an emergency response center and initiated a search operation.
Presidential spokesperson Guo Yahuai stated that President Lai Ching-te had instructed the Ministry of National Defense and relevant units to spare no effort in the search as soon as possible.
President Lai Ching-te also posted on Facebook this evening regarding the F-16 fighter jet from Hualien that went missing during training. He immediately directed the Ministry of National Defense and related units to prioritize ensuring the “safety of personnel” as the highest goal in the rescue operation. The Air Force Command Center has already initiated a joint search and rescue mission actively scouring the Hualien waters.
Lai Ching-te stated, “Each and every soldier of the national military is a crucial pillar of the country. I urge all fellow citizens to support Captain Xin and the rescue team. We will do our utmost best, fight for every minute and second, to bring the pilot back safely.”
