On New Year’s Day in 2026, in Georgia, a 15-year-old teenager called an Uber with the intention of carjacking. He then mercilessly killed the driver with a gun and abandoned the body on the street. The police solved the case that day and filed charges.
According to a press release from the Lawrenceville Police Department in Georgia on Friday, January 2, around 5 a.m., they received a report of a man lying on Groveland Parkway. The police found the man had gunshot wounds and was already dead.
The victim was identified as 58-year-old Cesar Tejada, a married man with two children who supported his family by driving for Uber.
A nearby Ring doorbell camera captured a black SUV parked on the street, and with the help of FLOCK camera technology and cooperation with Uber, the police reconstructed the events of the incident.
The police stated that around 4:13 a.m. that day, Tejada picked up a male passenger at 600 Rangewood Drive and then drove him to Groveland Parkway. After the car stopped, the passenger got out of the back seat, shot Tejada in the driver’s seat, dragged him out of the car, left him on the roadside, and then drove away.
The police subsequently tracked down the vehicle, which was seen in the same area where the passenger had boarded. They monitored the area and arrested the suspect, Christian Simmons, a 15-year-old, without incident as he came out of his house and onto the road.
Simmons has been charged with murder and will be tried as an adult.
In a statement to the media, a representative from Uber expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended their sincerest condolences to the driver’s family. Uber stated that they have been in contact with the Lawrenceville Police Department to fully assist in the investigation.
The police also expressed in their statement, “Let us remember the Tejada family and keep them in our prayers.”
