Recently, an upcoming star-studded concert in Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province has sparked widespread attention and skepticism among netizens. The promotional poster featured artists such as Dong Lai Dong Wang (real name Dai Lingpeng), who has been convicted of drug-related charges, and Xie Mengwei, who has been detained before, leading to speculation that these artists were making a comeback. Following strong criticism, the Zhongxiang City Bureau of Culture and Tourism stated that Dong Lai Dong Wang has withdrawn from the performance.
The promotional poster reveals that the event titled “Love in Hometown, Naye Zhongxiang Starry Night and 2026 Entertainer Festival” will take place from January 9th to January 10th, 2026, at the Mochou Village Scenic Area in Zhongxiang. The event will be headlined by local internet celebrity Naye, with performances by traditional comedy actor Hou Yaohua, singer Dong Lai Dong Wang, Wang Xu from the Sunrise Strong group, musician Dong Fangjun, among others. Additionally, “Gazi” Xie Mengwei and other individuals will serve as congratulatory guests.
According to ticketing platforms, the event offers tickets for viewing, group photos, one-on-one photoshoot videos, with prices ranging from 99 yuan to 999 yuan.
The participation of performers with a criminal record has raised concerns among netizens. Singer Dong Lai Dong Wang was previously sentenced to 1 year and 7 months in prison in 2019 for harboring drug use by others; “Gazi” Xie Mengwei was administratively detained in September 2025 for posing as a police officer and conducting prohibited activities; Naye was banned due to “false identity impersonation”.
In response to the controversy, the Zhongxiang City Bureau of Culture and Tourism officials stated that considering public sentiment, they have communicated with the organizers, leading to Dong Lai Dong Wang withdrawing from the performance. As of now, there are no further updates regarding Xie Mengwei, Naye, and others.
