Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Stands By With Walking Stick During LegCo Oath-taking

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new Legislative Council members today (January 1). During the oath-taking, a cane was placed beside her as the Chief Executive’s Office indicated that Carrie Lam was suffering from sciatic nerve pain.

According to Epoch Times Hong Kong, Carrie Lam stood for over an hour during the swearing-in ceremony for the new term of the Legislative Council, with a cane placed next to her. While taking the oath, she was seen multiple times pressing her left hand on the nearby coffee table, seemingly to support her body.

After the swearing-in ceremony, Carrie Lam walked out of the Legislative Council Chamber without using the cane. She did not respond to reporters’ questions about her physical condition.

The Chief Executive’s Office responded to media inquiries by stating that Carrie Lam is suffering from sciatic nerve pain.

Furthermore, it was confirmed that all 90 newly elected Legislative Council members, including Carrie Lam, took valid oaths during the ceremony.
