In a recent development, a new subway station in Shanghai has opened, prompting some netizens to share photos of English signage with hilariously low-level spelling mistakes. The Shanghai Metro operations team has responded to this issue.
The second phase of the Shanghai Rail Transit Line 18 project began its initial operation on December 27th, running from the Phase One Changjiang South Road Station to the Kangwen Road Station in the west.
However, vigilant netizens have noticed and shared some bugs in the new station names.
For instance, “呼瑪路” has been mistakenly marked as “Human” in English, and “Road” in “富錦路” has been wrongly labeled as “Poad”.
The errors in the English signage of the station names have led to a large number of netizens questioning the responsibility of the Shanghai Metro operations team, stating that it “greatly impacts the international metropolis image.” Some speculate that it could be a typing issue, where typing “Huma” automatically adds the extra “n”.
In response, the Shanghai Metro stated that they have identified and resolved such issues and will implement rectification in the coming days.
