Crime rates in the United States fell significantly last year but rose against the trend in multiple cities.

In 2025, the overall violent crime rate in the United States has been on the decline, but a new investigation reveals that despite the national improvement, several cities are experiencing the opposite trend with increases in murder, rape, robbery, and violent assault cases.

According to Fox News, the investigation conducted by the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) covered violent crime report data from January to September 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. The study tracked four categories of crime: murder, rape or sexual assault, robbery, and violent assault.

The investigation found that as the Trump administration initiated rigorous crime-fighting measures in multiple cities across the country, including the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C., the total number of violent crimes in all four key categories had decreased nationwide compared to the same period in 2024.

However, simultaneously, in certain cities and metropolitan areas where the federal government had not taken action, violent crime rates have been on the rise. The following cities are on the list:

– In Omaha, the number of all four types of violent crimes has increased.
– Atlanta has seen a rise in rape, robbery, and violent assault cases.
– Despite a decrease in robbery and violent assault cases nationwide, Columbus has experienced an increase.
– From 2024 to 2025, Los Angeles County witnessed an increase in rape and violent assault cases.
– Tampa saw increases in rape and robbery cases compared to the previous year.
– Suffolk County in eastern New York reported increases in murder and robbery cases.
– Wichita saw increases in murder and rape cases.
– In Pittsburgh, rape and violent assault cases have increased, while other types of violent crimes have decreased.
– Denver saw a rise in rape cases, according to MCCA data.
– Philadelphia reported an increase in rape cases.

This study highlights the complexity of the issue of violent crime rates in the United States, showcasing both areas of improvement and concerning trends in specific cities and regions. The efforts to address and combat these crimes remain ongoing as authorities work towards creating safer communities for all residents.
