Helicopters Collide in New Jersey Sky, One Dead and One Injured

On Sunday, December 28, two helicopters collided in the airspace over Hammonton, New Jersey, in the United States, resulting in one fatality and another person critically injured.

Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel stated that the rescue department received a report of the helicopter crash around 11:25 am on Sunday. Police and firefighters responded immediately, arriving at the scene to extinguish the flames engulfing one of the helicopters.

According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the accident involved an Enstrom F-28A and an Enstrom 280C helicopter, which collided “mid-air” near the Hammonton Municipal Airport. The statement mentioned that each aircraft had only one pilot on board at the time of the collision.

Videos taken at the scene show one helicopter rapidly spiraling and crashing to the ground.

Sean Macri, the Chief of Hammonton Fire Department, informed CNN that the two helicopters crashed in a field in Hammonton, and rescue personnel airlifted the two pilots to a trauma center.

The accident resulted in one fatality and left another person with critical life-threatening injuries.

Hammonton Town is located in Atlantic County in southern New Jersey, with a population of approximately 15,000 residents. It is situated about 35 miles (56 kilometers) southeast of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The town has a rich agricultural history and is surrounded by a wilderness area covering over 1 million acres (405,000 hectares) of forests.

Friel mentioned that the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified of the incident and will conduct an investigation into the crash.
