Why Flight Attendants Must Carry Four Things in Their Carry-On Luggage

During the Christmas and New Year period, many families and individuals choose to travel by air. The process of air travel is filled with tension and anxiety, from packing luggage to security checks, and the overall travel experience. The various experiences and lessons learned from air travel have become frequent topics of discussion on social media, attracting a lot of attention.

Some frequent flyers often share their experiences and tips on air travel on social media, sparking discussions among netizens. Topics such as how early to arrive at the airport, luggage brands, choosing between a window seat or an aisle seat, and more are commonly discussed. Those who travel frequently also pay attention to how to pack their luggage and what items to bring along; they have some essential items that they always carry with them, ensuring that they have everything they need for a comfortable journey.

Undoubtedly, flight attendants are among the most experienced group of people when it comes to air travel. They spend their days on planes, flying between cities worldwide, making them the true experts in travel essentials.

An article on the “Southern Living” website introduces what flight attendants always carry in their carry-on luggage and the reasons behind it.

Here are four items they always have with them.

“As a flight attendant, I always carry many important items whenever I fly. However, one thing I always make sure to have in my carry-on bag before boarding is a pack of ginger candies,” said Jacey R., a flight attendant with an American airline.

“Although they are small, their effects are significant for both me and my career. Sometimes flying can make people feel uncomfortable or nauseous. They may not be the most delicious, but I can assure you they are very effective,” she explained.

Staying hydrated has many benefits for the body, especially during air travel.

“Due to the dry air in the cabin compared to what we are used to, staying hydrated is crucial for a comfortable flight,” said Kazumi Chapa, a purser for an American airline based in Dallas/Fort Worth.

He also mentioned that drinking water is beneficial for skin health.

“When traveling, I always like to bring some essentials to make my journey fun, comfortable, and prepared for any ‘just in case’ scenarios,” mentioned Jason Collins, a flight attendant with Delta Air Lines based in Atlanta.

He listed several things he always brings on trips, such as backup chargers for all electronic devices, a microphone-equipped camera stand, and of course, breath-freshening mints.

He also carries sunscreen, wet wipes, and Lysol disinfecting wipes. Other items include a small sewing kit, Tylenol for unexpected headaches, and a pack of M&M chocolates for a little treat.

“Oh, and reusable utensils! They come in handy countless times,” he added.

Tyler Fowler, a flight attendant with an American airline based in Dallas/Fort Worth, said, “There is one thing I absolutely cannot travel without on a plane (well, when I’m traveling leisurely), and that’s my headphones.”

He also mentioned two other “must-have” travel items that everyone should carry: patience and respect. “During air travel, if things don’t go as planned, the crew members and the entire operation team work hard to deal with the ever-changing situations. If everyone can remain patient and show respect, it creates a positive atmosphere, ensuring that everyone has a pleasant experience,” he noted.
