A serious traffic accident occurred in Lao Cai Province in northwestern Vietnam on Saturday, December 27, resulting in the overturning of a bus and at least 9 deaths and 9 injuries.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, the overturning of the 29-seat bus happened around 7:40 a.m. on Saturday, at a section connecting National Highway 32 and Provincial Road 174 in Phinh Ho Commune.
At the time of the incident, the bus was carrying a group of charity travelers from Hanh Phuc to Tang Ghenh when it overturned, causing severe damage to the vehicle.
Hoang Anh Tuan, the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phinh Ho Commune, stated that there were a total of 19 people on board. The stretch of road where the accident occurred had a long downhill slope. The bus may have experienced brake failure before overturning.
Currently, relevant departments are intensifying on-site inspections and investigating the cause of the accident in accordance with the law.
Authorities have instructed the police, military, medical personnel, and other relevant local forces to rush to the scene urgently to carry out emergency rescue and ambulance services, promptly transporting the injured to medical facilities for treatment, while also ensuring public order and traffic safety at the scene.
Lao Cai Province has directed the relevant agencies to organize visits to the families of the deceased and injured individuals to offer condolences and provide timely assistance.
