Sichuan high school student dormitory experiences temporary power restriction leading to frequent blackouts.

Sichuan Xichang College has set up power consumption standards for student dormitories, causing power outages when students use multiple computers simultaneously. This issue comes at a time when students are busy using computers to complete end-of-term assignments, disrupting their study routines.

Several netizens have recently reported that the power consumption standard of “200 watts per person” set by a college in Liangshan, Sichuan is unreasonable. For example, a dormitory for four students is limited to 800 watts, and a six-student dormitory is limited to 1200 watts. This limitation results in power outages when multiple computers are used concurrently, hindering students who are rushing to complete their assignments.

Screenshots shared by netizens show that the school advised students not to use high-power electrical appliances, thus implementing the power consumption standard. If the power consumption exceeds the set standard, the circuit breaker will trip. Students have expressed that this standard leads to frequent power outages, disrupting their study lives.

According to a report by “Xiaoxiang Morning News,” the involved school is Xichang College, which is a public undergraduate institution. On December 25th, when contacted, the school office staff mentioned that the issue of limited power in student dormitories has been resolved, and there are currently no restrictions on power consumption. They stated, “Just use electricity normally.”

Publicly available information shows that many colleges restrict the use of high-power electrical appliances in student dormitories. For instance, a university in Hubei limits the use of individual electrical appliances above 800 watts. In a college in Henan, it is stipulated that the total power consumption of a single dormitory should not exceed 1500 watts and so on.
