In the past few days, the Royal Thai Air Force has been carrying out continuous strikes on scam operations inside Cambodia. The footage we are seeing now was released on December 20th: a Thai F-16 fighter jet used a GBU-12 Paveway II laser-guided bomb to launch a deadly strike on a casino near the Cambodia border, resulting in billowing smoke and the destruction of multiple casino buildings.
Subsequently, the Royal Thai Marine Corps successfully gained control of the Banteay Srei village and the Tamar Casino near the Thai-Cambodian border with support from AAVP amphibious assault vehicles. The footage we are currently seeing is from a video shot by a local Chinese individual, where we can clearly hear Mandarin being spoken. The man mentioned “three, with more behind,” referring to the Thai amphibious assault vehicles. A Chinese sign in the video reads “House No. 5 Club,” indicating the presence of a significant number of Chinese individuals working at the scam center in the Cambodian border area.
Looking at a specific Google Map, the Tamar Casino is only a few hundred meters from the Thai border, while it is quite distant from major Cambodian cities like Sihanoukville or Phnom Penh. The significant presence of Chinese individuals in this area indicates the operation of a scam center run by Chinese nationals.
A map of scam areas within Cambodia shows that fraud centers are mainly concentrated in border regions rather than major cities like Phnom Penh. The worst-hit areas are in Sihanoukville, where a large number of Chinese nationals gather, with so-called technology parks and Chinatowns serving as hotbeds for scam operations.
Moving northward, there is the Preah Vihear Province located in a remote development zone along the border. Today’s reported video footage is from this area, which is very close to the Thai border. Further north are two other heavily affected regions, Poipet and Oddar Meanchey Province.
In recent times, Thailand’s focus in combat has been on the aforementioned three areas: Preah Vihear, Poipet, and Oddar Meanchey Province.
On December 20th, footage captured by Cambodian citizens in Poipet City showed the raising of three flags – Indonesia, Cambodia, and China – atop a fraudulent building, indicating international involvement in the scams.
The Royal Thai Army stated on December 20th that the ongoing military operations along the Thai-Cambodian border have significantly disrupted international scam networks, restricting their activities and forcing them to relocate. The operations also targeted certain Cambodian military facilities.
Over the past few days, the Thai Air Force has been conducting successive bombings on scam areas within Cambodia. Many of these fraud centers are constructed and operated by Chinese nationals, who have frequently become strongholds for Cambodian warlords during this conflict.
Footage from December 20th showed Thai F-16 fighter jets dropping three bombs on a casino building near Pursat Province in Cambodia, with a large military drone also conducting surveillance tasks in the region.
In another video segment, an F-16 fighter jet bombed another border casino, causing severe damage to the structure and sending billows of smoke rising from the ground.
On the ground, Thai forces made continued advancements. A video released on December 21st showed the Thai military fully controlling the 350th Highland border area. The number ‘350’ in this context refers to the elevation, often used in military conflict to name strategic highlands.
On the geographical map, we can observe that the Thai-Cambodian border features relatively flat plains on one side and mountainous terrain on the other, with the 350th Highland located in between. Adjacent to the Highland is the Ta Kue temple, with a road in front, holding strategic value by controlling the surrounding square kilometers.
The terrain here reminds us of the historical battles such as the Battle of Lang Son between China and Vietnam in the 1980s, where both sides competed for border highlands like the 1250th Highland to gain artillery advantages.
The Second Military Region of Thailand reported that the Thai military has fully taken control of the 350th region along the Thai-Cambodian border. The military operation began on December 16th, targeting three key locations. Prior to launching the final attack on the 350th Highland, the Thai military successfully cleared the Ta Kue temple and another Cambodian military stronghold.
Reports indicated that Cambodia deployed additional troops as Thai forces sought to seize this strategic highland. Heavy fighting paused on Thursday night but resumed around 6 am the following day. Cambodian forces attempted to reinforce the 350th Highland, prompting Thai artillery to block their advance, severing supply and logistical routes. The morning saw increased intensity in shelling, gradually tapering off later on. The 350th Highland is considered a crucial commanding point in the region, offering tactical advantages to its controller.
To disrupt Cambodian vehicular transport to the 350th Highland and Ta Kue temple, the Thai Air Force destroyed the O’Kriek Bridge on Highway 68 in Oddar Meanchey Province on the night of December 19th. Located about 62 kilometers from the Thai border in Stung Treng Province, the bridge served as a vital supply line for Cambodian frontline forces. Prior to this, Thai military discovered weapons moving along this highway toward frontline regions.
Nighttime footage captured by local villagers displayed the heavily damaged bridge, with the concrete surface blown into large holes and steel reinforcements exposed, rendering it impassable.
Through coordinated efforts between the air force and army, Thailand fully controlled the 250th Highland area on December 20th. Regrettably, during the conflict, Deputy Commander Prakong of the Third Battalion of the 23rd Infantry Regiment of Thailand and a soldier were martyred. On December 21st, the government of Surin Province paid tribute to the two fallen soldiers from the 350th Highland battle, their bodies returned to Thailand as military personnel and local residents gathered along the roadside, waving flags in the highest respect to bid farewell to the fallen soldiers, the ceremony solemn and filled with sorrow.
In a notification from the Second Military Region of Thailand, it was revealed that, on the same day, the Cambodian military continued using mortars and artillery to attack multiple Thai military positions in the Doteuka-Santai-Pampae-Tataranapeak area, resulting in fortifications being destroyed and casualties amongst the troops, prompting Thai forces to retaliate with artillery, forcing the Cambodian military to shift their firing positions. Later in the night, both sides extensively used drones for reconnaissance and attacks.
Through Thai military notifications, it is evident that the past week has witnessed intense and ongoing military conflicts at the Thai-Cambodian border without signs of a ceasefire.
On December 20th, local monitoring footage revealed Thai forces entering the Tordal area in Pursat Province, Cambodia. In the dimly lit makeshift shelter, surrounded by green sandbags and military equipment, a Chinese-made Type 56-1 Assault Rifle leaning on a simple altar was accompanied by a red ornament containing helmets and lit candles, with smoke wafting. Cambodian soldiers in military attire stood, hands clasped in prayer, demonstrating a scene of deep devotion.
During this warfare, the Thai military accused the Cambodian military of using historical sites as military strongholds. They released images showing that Cambodian forces set up cover and military positions directly within historical temples near the border, even involving civilians directly or indirectly in the conflict, disregarding civilian safety.
In recent days, Thailand and Cambodia have continued intense military conflicts along the border. Through fierce battles, Thailand has successfully gained complete control of the 350th Highland and the nearby Ta Kue temple. Additionally, the Thai Air Force conducted air strikes on scam centers within Cambodia. Numerous videos emerging from the remote border area between Cambodia and Thailand show a significant presence of Chinese individuals, with some even raising Chinese flags at the scam centers. From this perspective, undeniably, I fully support Thailand’s military action in this operation.
Of course, I am not alone in supporting Thailand. Chinese netizens have flocked to the Thai embassy’s microblog to leave comments expressing support for Thailand in eradicating scams and calling for continued bombardment. There are wishes for the safe and triumphant return of the Thai military and the defeat of the fraudulent centers. Some netizens shared that they have not received scam calls for many days, saluting the Thai king and military!
Lastly, let’s explore how Thai officials evaluate the issue of Chinese scamming Chinese.
