Los Angeles Chinese International Human Rights Day Rally Calls for Release of All Political Prisoners

On December 7th, Chinese Americans in Los Angeles rallied in front of the Chinese Consulate in response to International Human Rights Day, demanding the immediate cessation of torture, arbitrary detention, religious persecution, and ethnic oppression by the Chinese Communist Party, as well as the release of all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience.

At the event, participants displayed banners, photos of prisoners of conscience, symbolic posters, and protest slogans to expose the ongoing human rights abuses across China. They carried signs with messages such as “Release all political prisoners,” “Stop torture,” and “End the tyranny of the CCP,” sending a clear message to the world that human rights abuses persist and the free world cannot stay silent.

Attendees held up photos of political prisoners such as Wang Bingzhang, Gao Zhisheng, Wu Yanan, and Ding Jiaxi, chanting in unison: “Release all political prisoners!” “Down with the Communist Party!” “End the tyranny of the CCP!”

The systematic imprisonment of human rights defenders in China, the genocidal persecution in Xinjiang, the destruction of freedoms in Hong Kong, and the intimidation, coercion, torture, and denial of lawyer rights to overseas Chinese were highlighted at the gathering. Representatives emphasized that the Chinese communist regime is not a government but an apparatus of oppression, and the suffering of every political prisoner is evidence of the CCP’s crimes against humanity.

The organizing body, the China Democracy Party International Alliance, stated that the so-called “comprehensive democracy” of the CCP involves arbitrary detention, forced organ harvesting, and the creation of a climate of social terror, emphasizing that human rights and civilization are the CCP’s Achilles’ heel. They called for the formation of an international alliance against the CCP to put an end to its tyranny and strive for a future International Human Rights Day to be commemorated on Chinese soil.

The spokesperson for the event, Jia Huigang, logistics director of the Los Angeles branch of the China Democracy Party International Alliance, expressed his personal responsibility in organizing the event, stressing that standing up against persecution is not a choice but an obligation. He shared how he once lived under the rule of lies, where speaking the truth could land one in a mental hospital and individuals advocating for human rights could disappear. Jia asserted that their presence at the consulate was not driven by hatred but by the firm belief that the truth must be heard, persecution must be remembered, and human rights must be defended.

A citizen of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, Li Yixue, alleged in 2022 that she was sexually assaulted by auxiliary police officers at a police station and was subsequently forcibly admitted to a mental hospital. While the city officials reported Li Yixue’s release on January 11, 2025, the authenticity of the announcement remains in question as Li Yixue has not made a public appearance since.

Wang Wenyuan, a student from Karamay in Xinjiang, highlighted that the persecution of human rights by the CCP is not isolated incidents but systematic violence. He emphasized that their gathering was not about being courageous but rather standing up for those who do not have the opportunity to speak out. Wang condemned the CCP’s torture of political prisoners, enforced disappearances, coercion, and denial of defense rights as egregious crimes against humanity, reminding the world that the CCP continues to persecute, and silence is not an option.

The rally was jointly initiated by the China Democracy Party International Alliance in collaboration with the Union of Chinese Social Democratic Party, Hong Kong Democratic Rebuilding Alliance, Global Alliance for Ending the CCP, Awakening New Generation, International Human Rights Watch Group, and China Anti-Political Persecution Alliance.
