On the evening of December 19th (Friday), Shanghai Telecom responded to Luo Yonghao’s complaint about the Internet speed being consistently below 100 Mbps, citing various factors such as household type, area, wall shielding, which has been questioned by netizens.
According to a report by “Jiemian News”, Chinese tech entrepreneur and popular blogger Luo Yonghao recently stated on his social media that after moving to Shanghai, he has been subscribed to a dedicated 1 Gbps broadband from Telecom for over six months, but most of the time the speed does not reach 100 Mbps, despite temporary improvements after contacting customer service, it quickly drops back to around 90 Mbps.
Shanghai Telecom’s response on the evening of December 19th stated that users may encounter situations where WiFi speed in different rooms does not meet the standard, attributing it to factors such as household structure, indoor area, wall shielding, signal interference, device placement, self-purchased router standards, and terminal device performance. The company mentioned that in such cases, users can directly call China Telecom’s external service hotline at 10000 for free professional network diagnostics and repair services.
This response sparked discussions among netizens. Many feel that the reply is too “official-template-like” and does not directly address the issue at hand. Some comments below the news post said: “This feels like an empty response, very official demeanor without providing any concrete solutions.” “This response is similar to what I heard when I called, essentially saying it’s not the service provider’s problem.” “The universal reply.” “With monopolies, what else can you expect?”
Some netizens questioned the inadequate responses from operators to public complaints, saying, “Telecom just replied because Luo is somewhat known, for ordinary people like us who call to complain every day, we might as well be talking to the air.” “The three major operators are like three vampires, the people have suffered from them for a long time, but there is nothing we can do.”
There were also netizens who mocked the official rhetoric with statements like: “Mr. Luo Yonghao: In response to this issue, we must seize the urgency, enhance our sense of responsibility, improve our execution, keep up with innovation, understand complexity, and not procrastinate, shift blame, dodge, perfunctorily, or give up. By finding the root cause, core issues, focus points, difficulties, and breakthroughs from various dimensions, angles, levels, and measures to comprehensively solve the problem.”
“How should we solve this minor issue? In fact, the problem is not complicated, the key lies in whether we have the determination and perseverance to solve it, and whether we can face difficulties and take responsibility. As long as we have unwavering confidence and face challenges head-on, solving this problem will be a breeze. Of course, in the process of resolving the issue, we need to start with identifying the problem, base it on analyzing the problem, set the goal to solve it, aiming for early detection, early research, and early resolution.”
