Elderly man in Luoyang killed in park by wire while cycling

Tragic Incident in Henan Province: Elderly Man Dies After Being Cut by Wire in Park

In a recent incident in Luoyang City, Henan Province, an elderly man tragically lost his life while riding a bike in the park after his neck was cut by wire without any warning signs. The news of this incident quickly went viral on December 19.

According to a netizen from mainland China who posted on December 17, his father was cycling through Shouyang Mountain Forest Park in Yanshi District of Luoyang City on December 10 when wire tied to trees on both sides of the road severed his neck. Despite being rushed to the hospital, medical treatment was unsuccessful, and he passed away.

The daughter of the victim, Ms. Lan, shared with the mainland media “Jixiang News” on December 18 that on the morning of December 10, her father, Mr. Lan, was riding a tricycle along a cement road inside Shouyang Mountain Forest Park when the wire tied to trees on both sides of the road caused the fatal injury to his neck. Despite medical efforts, he could not be saved.

The diagnosis from Yanshi People’s Hospital in Luoyang City revealed that Mr. Lan suffered from “neck injury, type 2 respiratory failure, circulatory failure, metabolic acidosis, elevated lactic acid in blood, subcutaneous emphysema, and tracheal rupture.” Sadly, Mr. Lan passed away on the same day at the age of 59 due to unsuccessful rescue efforts.

Ms. Lan expressed that the park is an open public space frequented by cyclists and motorcyclists, and she was puzzled by the presence of wires tied to tree trunks without any warning signs nearby.

On the 18th, Mr. Wang, the person in charge of the forest park, told the media that the incident occurred in a privately contracted area that is off-limits to the public. He speculated, “Perhaps they were afraid of unauthorized entry. If they had put up a sign prohibiting outsiders from entering, maybe this tragedy could have been avoided.”

Currently, relevant authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter.
