On December 18, 2025, Dan Bongino, the Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States, announced his resignation less than a year after taking office. Bongino posted on the social platform X on Wednesday, December 17, stating that he will officially leave the FBI in January next year.
In his statement, Bongino expressed his gratitude to President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and FBI Director Kash Patel for giving him the opportunity to serve. He described it as a great honor to be able to serve the country.
He concluded his post by writing, “May God bless America and all those who defend it.”
Just hours before Bongino officially announced his resignation, Trump had already revealed to the media at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland that he would be leaving his position. Trump remarked, “Dan has done a great job. I think he wants to go back to hosting his own show.”
Bongino has long been active as a political commentator on Fox News, gaining high visibility since 2013 and later hosting “The Dan Bongino Show” on the Rumble platform until he was appointed as the FBI Deputy Director in February of this year.
Prior to his FBI role, Bongino served as a police officer in the New York City Police Department and later joined the United States Secret Service, without prior experience in the FBI. His appointment as Deputy Director garnered widespread attention from the public.
As the second in command at the FBI, Bongino was responsible for assisting Patel in overseeing the bureau’s operations, including critical functions such as decision-making in major cases, personnel arrangements, and resource allocation.
As for whether he will return to media work, Fox News has not yet responded to inquiries from The Epoch Times.
