Photo Gallery: Dog Surfing Competition makes a splash in California, winning over a large audience.

Last Sunday, September 7th, an extraordinary event took place at Del Mar Dog Beach in California, USA – the annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon. Over 50 dogs showcased their surfing skills by jumping on surfboards, attracting a large crowd of spectators and onlookers.

Hosted by the non-profit organization, Helen Woodward Animal Center, this whimsical canine competition has reached its twentieth year. The scene at the event was filled with dogs surfing solo on the boards or accompanied by their owners. Each participating dog displayed unique styles – some wore sunglasses, while others donned costumes adorned with “fin” decorations, adding to the fun and diversity of the event. But what truly stood out was the fierce determination and focus on the faces of each competing dog as they fearlessly rode the waves towards the shore, eliciting cheers from the hundreds of spectators on the beach.

It is worth noting that all proceeds from this event are used to support Helen Woodward Animal Center’s “Orphan Pets” rescue program. Founded in 1972 in Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego County, California, the center serves over 90,000 people and more than 10,000 animals in the community each year through adoption, training, and therapy programs.
