This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan. Mr. Xin Haonian is a scholar-type writer who has conducted a lot of research on the War of Resistance Against Japan. Today, he was invited to discuss whether the Communist Party of China really participated in the Anti-Japanese War.
Xin Haonian stated that Mao Zedong initially believed that the comprehensive Japanese invasion of China was a rare opportunity for the Chinese Communist Party, as they could take advantage of this situation to weaken the Nationalist Army and expand their territory. However, Stalin opposed this approach and ordered Mao Zedong to cooperate with Chiang Kai-shek to jointly resist the Japanese army, keeping the Japanese forces engaged in China to prevent them from attacking the Soviet Union and ensuring the security of the Soviet Union’s eastern front.
Stalin provided monthly funds and military supplies to Mao Zedong to encourage the Communist forces to fight against the Japanese. The Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army of the CCP had some minor skirmishes with the Japanese army, but there were no large-scale direct conflicts.
After the signing of the Soviet-Japanese Neutrality Pact in April 1941, ensuring the security of the Soviet Union’s eastern front, Stalin no longer mentioned the need for resistance against Japan. Consequently, the Communist Party of China ceased its anti-Japanese activities and instead cooperated with the puppet regime of Wang Jingwei to jointly combat the Nationalist forces.
