American singer Justin Timberlake, aged 44, faced criticism from the audience during a concert in Ireland for his performance. After wrapping up his “Forget Tomorrow” world tour, Timberlake took to Instagram on July 31 to reveal that he has been diagnosed with the rare disease, Lyme disease, describing a constant state of physical and mental exhaustion.
Timberlake’s “Forget Tomorrow” world tour kicked off in April 2024 and concluded this week in Turkey. Responding to fans’ disappointment with the tour, he explained that apart from facing some health issues, he has also been diagnosed with Lyme disease.
“I’m usually low-key, but during this time, I’ve been dealing with some health issues and have been diagnosed with Lyme disease,” Timberlake said. He further explained, “I’m sharing this not to seek sympathy but to let everyone know what I’m going through behind the scenes. If you’ve had this disease or know someone who has, you understand the ongoing torment it can cause both physically and mentally.”
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted to humans by infected ticks. Even after treatment, some patients may experience long-term symptoms such as fatigue, body aches, and loss of energy, which can last for years.
Upon receiving the diagnosis, Timberlake admitted feeling shocked. However, he said he finally understands why he experienced sudden intense nerve pain, extreme fatigue, and discomfort on stage. Faced with a personal decision of whether to halt the tour or continue pushing forward and finding solutions, he chose the latter, emphasizing that the joy performing brings him outweighs the temporary physical strain. He expressed gratitude for not giving up.
Initially hesitant to share these details, Timberlake mentioned his upbringing taught him to keep some things to himself. However, he had a change of heart, stating, “Now, I want to learn to share my struggles more openly to avoid misunderstandings. By sharing this, I hope we can all connect better and I also want to contribute in helping those going through this disease.” He referred to this as “honestly facing vulnerability.”
Timberlake, known for his past relationship with ex-girlfriend Britney Spears and his success as a solo artist after leaving the boy band NSYNC, has won 10 Grammy Awards and is one of the best-selling musicians globally in terms of albums and concerts. He married actress Jessica Biel in 2012, and they have two children.
