Net celebrity gorilla at Nanning Zoo causes trouble, throwing stones and injuring visitors.

During the Labour Day holiday, various unexpected incidents occurred at tourist attractions across China. On May 1st, a popular black chimpanzee named “Throwing Chimp” at the zoo in Nanning City, Guangxi Province, suddenly threw stones at visitors during a performance, injuring a female tourist.

A circulating video shows the black chimpanzee holding a rock walking around the area, surrounded by hundreds of spectators cheering. The chimpanzee suddenly threw the rock towards the crowd, causing the visitors to panic and retreat, with one female tourist unfortunately getting hit in the leg by the stone. She was later taken away in an ambulance.

According to a report by Xin Jing Bao, officials from the Nanning Cultural and Tourism Bureau responded later that evening, stating that the injured tourist had their wound bandaged and returned to the hotel for rest, with no serious harm done.

The staff member also mentioned that “Throwing Chimp” typically throws grass or balls to visitors during performances, and they are currently investigating why stones appeared in the area. It is reported that to attract visitors, the zoo launched a “Throwing Chimp” ball-throwing activity in March this year.

However, some netizens expressed that “This is not the first time (the chimpanzee) has caused trouble.” According to a previous report by Jiu Pai News, in 2022, the chimpanzee gained fame for throwing grass, mud, and other items at visitors, and was named “Throwing Chimp” by netizens.

A senior animal trainer told “Red Star News” that visitors provoking and playing with the chimpanzees during the viewing process could be seen as a form of provocation, easily leading the chimpanzees to become angry. Chimpanzees may express their anger through jumping, clapping, roaring, and even throwing objects to drive away what they perceive as unfriendly intruders into their territory.

On the same day, there was also a mountain collapse near the Danxia Scenic Area, resulting in multiple vehicles being hit.
