Singing to Daughter to Sleep, Mouth Covered – Eric Chou’s Funny Response to One Question

Taiwanese singer Eric Chou, who debuted ten years ago with the album “Almost Love”, recently launched a visual project titled “Love Has Its Ways” at the Golden Horse Fantasy Film Festival on April 17. In an interview, the father of two humorously revealed a sweet yet funny anecdote about singing to his daughter to help her sleep but she preferred her mother’s lullabies, leaving him feeling a bit rejected and jokingly wanting to ask his daughter, “Don’t you understand?”

Eric Chou, who won the 59th Golden Horse Award for Best Original Film Song with “What Do You Want?” this time collaborated with director Lin Hsiao-chien and producer Lo Wei-chun to tell stories based on the songs from his ten-year debut album “Almost Love,” including “We Haven’t Started,” “Endless Valentine’s Day,” and “Miss You and Me.” Accompanied by Eric Chou’s warm voice, these three seemingly independent love stories are woven together into a cohesive whole.

The film features performances from actors such as Chen Shufang, Zhang Jun Ning, Chris Lin, Ivy Chen, Fu Meng Bo, Kuo Hsueh Fu, Wang Yang Ming, and Ho Si Jing. When asked about the most challenging part of the filming process, director Lin Hsiao-chien mentioned a scene where all six groups of people had to intersect in the same space. During the filming, Taiwan was hit by four consecutive typhoons, forcing them to change the shooting location from a market to a constructed set for safety reasons. Lin Hsiao-chien commented, “Completing all scenes within 5 hours was very difficult.”

After watching the film for the first time, Eric Chou expressed his belief that the romantic musical story on the big screen would be even more touching. As a father for the second time, he revealed, “Now when I leave home, I feel a bit guilty and want to go home for dinner or be with my family. Before, it was probably 80% work and 20% family, but now it has become 70% work and 30% family.”

Eric Chou also shared a funny incident where he tried to sing to his daughter to sleep one night, but she stopped him, saying she wanted her mother, Zhao Dai Xin, to sing instead. This left Eric Chou amused and a bit bewildered, jokingly expressing his desire to tell his daughter, “Don’t you understand? I am a Golden Horse Award winner, and you prefer your mom’s singing.” His playful disclosure brought laughter to the audience.
