Several top executives of a major Chinese military-industrial conglomerate affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have gone missing recently. In a recent meeting of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), almost all of the group’s senior leaders were in attendance, except for the Party Secretary and Chairman, Yu Jianfeng. Similarly, in a meeting convened by the State Council of the CCP, the Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Jin Zhuanglong, who comes from the aerospace field, was once again absent.
On January 17th, the CNNC held its “Party Integrity and Anti-Corruption Work Conference for 2025” in Beijing. Senior executives and key department heads were present at the meeting, however, notable absences included Yu Jianfeng, the Party Secretary and Chairman of CNNC.
Attending the meeting was Shen Yanfeng, the Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager of CNNC. Party members including Vice General Manager Ma Wenjun, Chief Accountant Wang Xuejun, and Vice General Managers Zhang Kai, Xin Feng, and Chen Junli were also present. Zhang Yue, the Head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Office of CNNC and a Party member, presided over the meeting.
Public records indicate that Yu Jianfeng, 59, hails from Tianshui City in Gansu Province and has been working in CNNC for many years. He was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Nuclear Power Department in 2001, subsequently serving in various roles such as Party Committee Member and Vice General Manager within the group. He later held positions as the Deputy Party Secretary and Vice General Manager of the State Power Investment Corporation, as well as Director, General Manager, and Deputy Party Secretary of the State Development and Investment Corporation. In 2017, he returned to CNNC as the General Manager and became Chairman in 2018.
On January 17th, the State Council of the CCP held its third “Integrity Work Conference,” with nearly all government officials in attendance, except for Minister Jin Zhuanglong of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Deputy Minister Xin Guobin represented the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in his absence. Jin Zhuanglong had previously been absent from a meeting of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
With the ongoing anti-corruption campaign within the military, over the past year, several prominent figures in the military-industrial complex have either been sacked or gone missing, including: Wu Yansheng, Chairman of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation; Liu Shiquan, Chairman of China Ordnance Industries Group Corporation; Wang Changqing, Vice General Manager of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation; Yuan Jie, Chairman of China Aerospace Science and Industry Group Corporation; Tan Ruisong, former Chairman of China Aviation Industry Corporation; Chen Zhaoxiong, former Chairman of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation; and former General Manager Wu Manqing.
Additionally, Xu Dazhe, a Standing Committee member of the National People’s Congress and former Secretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee, has missed two consecutive meetings of the NPC Standing Committee. He has previously served as the General Manager and Chairman of China Aerospace Science and Industry Group Corporation.
