Recently, Bill Webb had a touching moment as he turned 80, where his seven grandchildren found his old photos and dressed up as him in different eras to celebrate his birthday and his life, expressing their love and admiration for him.
His only granddaughter, 21-year-old Kenzie Greene, shared a post on Instagram about the birthday celebration, leaving a deep impression on many people around the world.
“He knows exactly how to make us all feel special, remembering each and every one of us,” she said in an interview with Epoch Times. “He’s so fun, just the kind of grandfather you imagine.”
Kenzie and her grandparents, cousins, and other family members live in the outskirts of Knoxville, Tennessee.
To honor the countless significant moments “Pawpaw” has created in her and her cousins’ lives, Kenzie wanted to do something special for him. She recalled how her grandparents always showed up at their sports games and other activities to express their love and support.
Despite having daughters themselves, Kenzie pointed out that Bill has just one granddaughter. However, she emphasized that while her grandparents share a deep connection with her, they have built equally close relationships with each grandchild, showing fairness and care to all.
After retiring from his job as an engineer, Bill has thoroughly enjoyed his life as a grandfather, spending countless nights playing games, sharing meals, and bonding with family at their lakeside cabin.
Kenzie fondly recalls a favorite memory. When she was 12, her grandparents took the whole family, including each cousin, to Disney World, giving them all Christmas presents early. Inside the gifts were jumbled letters that, when rearranged, spelled out “We’re going on a Disney cruise,” a clever way to reveal the surprise.
In gratitude for all her grandparents have done, Kenzie and her cousins wanted to do something special for “Pawpaw,” showing him how important he is to them.
They decided the theme of the celebration would highlight the different eras of her grandfather’s life. Carefully selecting prominent elements, Kenzie said, “80 years is a long time,” so they had to incorporate those years into seven eras that each grandchild could represent.
For each era of “Pawpaw’s” life, each grandchild chose a period that resonated with their connection to him. For example, Kenzie’s cousin Hutton, who loved football in high school, represented Bill’s “football era,” while Kenzie, currently studying at the University of Tennessee where Bill also studied, naturally chose his “fraternity boy” era.
Other family members got involved in another surprise activity, dressing in “Pawpaw’s” iconic attire and sharing the snacks Bill often enjoyed.
The process of preparing, planning, and executing this surprise was as enjoyable as the event itself, all fueled by their love for “Pawpaw.”
“He really loved the event,” Kenzie said. “It was so cute. He was so excited. He didn’t realize everyone was dressed like him until my aunt had to point it out, which was funny because, of course, he wouldn’t notice, but when each cousin started coming out to perform, he burst into laughter over and over again.”
Reflecting on the experience, Kenzie noted that she and her cousins love hearing “Pawpaw” tell his life stories, so being able to share parts of his own life story back to him was a wonderful experience for the grandchildren.
According to Kenzie, surprises like these are not uncommon in her family, as this was not the first time a video of their family activities went viral online.
One commenter summed up the video, writing, “I may not know this family, but this fully demonstrates the power of love, legacy, and family ties. How inspiring it is to pay tribute to those who paved the way before us. This legacy inspires all of us. What a beautiful family!”
