Two killed in paragliding accident in Hunan

On January 1st, 2025, the first day of the new year, a paragliding accident occurred in the Nanyue District of Hengyang, Hunan, resulting in the death of a female college student and her instructor.

In the evening of the 1st, a netizen posted a video claiming that two people had fallen while paragliding in Hengyang, dropping into a village in Nanyue Town in the Nanyue District, with their fate hanging by a thread.

Local sources revealed that the paraglider involved in the accident fell at Shuilian Cave, and there was also a pilot involved.

An eyewitness told the “New Beijing News” that the passenger on the paraglider was a female college student who died on the spot, while the pilot was sent to the hospital for treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Preliminary investigation suggests that mechanical failure was the cause.

On the 2nd, an official from the Nanyue District responded to Jimo News, stating that the paragliding accident occurred on the afternoon of January 1st, outside the Hengshan Scenic Area in a village. It was learned that the paragliding activity was part of a company project. At the time of the incident, there were two individuals on the paraglider, one male and one female. The male was a local from Hengyang with relevant paragliding qualifications, while the female was from another region, and both had previously signed a safety responsibility agreement.

An employee of the Nanyue District Culture, Tourism, Radio, Film and Sports Bureau stated that the paragliding accident resulted in the deaths of two individuals, and the bureau has initiated an investigation. Currently, the project has been temporarily suspended.
