Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Reach Divorce Settlement After 8-Year Legal Battle

After a grueling eight-year legal battle, Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally announced their official divorce in the United States on December 30, 2024.

According to People magazine, Angelina Jolie’s lawyer James Simon confirmed that the 49-year-old Jolie and 61-year-old Pitt signed the divorce agreement on December 30, Monday.

Simon stated, “Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt over 8 years ago, and she and the children gave up their share of the property they shared with Mr. Pitt. Since then, she has been focusing on finding peace and healing for her family.” The statement further noted, “This is just one part of a long process that started 8 years ago. Frankly, Angelina Jolie is exhausted, but she is relieved that this matter has finally come to a resolution.”

Jolie and Pitt met and fell in love while filming the movie “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” in 2004, causing a stir in the entertainment industry as Pitt divorced his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston for Jolie. The two Oscar winners tied the knot in 2014 and together adopted and gave birth to a total of 6 children.

However, cracks in their marriage began to show shortly after, leading to a separation in 2016, with Jolie filing for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. During the subsequent legal proceedings, Jolie accused Pitt of being violent towards her and the children on a private plane flying from Europe, although police investigations did not confirm the allegations. Despite the FBI dropping the case later and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services finding no basis for charges against Pitt, Jolie could not forgive him.

Now, after more than 8 years, the two have finally reached a divorce agreement, setting a record for the longest and most controversial divorce in Hollywood history. Despite once being known as the golden couple, they have officially become “the most familiar strangers”, but the dispute over the sale of shares in a French vineyard they co-own remains unresolved.
