Mexican authorities stated on Friday, December 27th, that a passenger bus collided with a truck, resulting in at least 8 deaths and 27 injuries.
The Veracruz state prosecutor in Mexico mentioned that the accident occurred early Friday morning on a stretch of highway near the state capital of Xalapa.
Most of the victims were passengers on the bus.
“So far, it has been reported that 8 people have died, including 3 men, 4 women, and 1 minor. There are also 27 injured individuals who are currently receiving treatment at nearby hospitals,” the prosecutor’s statement said.
The cause of the accident is still unclear. Some roads in the mountainous region have sharp curves.
The prosecutor stated that forensic experts and police are working diligently to determine the cause of the accident.
According to local media reports, the ADO bus was traveling on the Mexico City-Xalapa route at the time of the accident, and the bus driver seemed to have not noticed the truck, leading to the collision.
Veracruz Governor Rocio Nahle mentioned on the social media platform X that the state is coordinating with the federal government to assist passengers and relatives affected by the accident.
Fatal traffic accidents are common in Mexico, often caused by speeding, poor vehicle conditions, or driver fatigue. In recent years, accidents involving freight trucks on Mexican highways have also been on the rise.
