A high-ranking official of the Chinese Communist Party, Wu Cunrong, has been removed from the position of Chairman of the 13th Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and his membership has been revoked.
According to a report by Shanxi Daily on December 27, at the 10th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC Shanxi Provincial Committee held on December 24, Wu Cunrong was dismissed from his position for serious violations of discipline and law, and his membership in the 13th Shanxi Provincial Committee of the CPPCC was revoked.
Furthermore, according to official Chinese state media, the 29th Chairpersons’ Meeting of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC was held on December 24. The meeting approved the decision to revoke the membership of Wei Boping and Wu Cunrong from the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, and recommended for approval at the 10th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th CPPCC.
On December 16, Wu Cunrong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, was reported to be under investigation for serious violations of discipline and law.
Public records show that Wu Cunrong was born in May 1963 in Wuhu, Anhui Province. He has held various positions including Director of the Planning Department of the Anhui Provincial Water Resources Department, County Mayor and Party Secretary of Zongyang County, Director and Party Secretary of the Anhui Provincial Water Resources Department, Mayor and Party Secretary of Hefei City, Member of the Standing Committee of the Anhui Provincial Committee and Party Secretary of Hefei City, Member of the Standing Committee of the Anhui Provincial Committee, Vice Governor of the Provincial Government, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Group.
In 2017, Wu Cunrong was transferred to Chongqing and served as a Member of the Municipal Committee and Executive Vice Mayor. In 2021, he became the Deputy Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee, and in 2022, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress and Deputy Secretary of the Party Group.
In January 2023, Wu Cunrong was appointed as the Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, a position he held until the recent investigation.
