Xiang County Party Secretary Under Investigation for Allowing Businesses to Mix Inferior Rice into Student Meals

The Communist Party’s website disclosed in a report on December 25 that two former county party secretaries in Longhui County, Hunan Province, accepted bribes and allowed unethical businesses to mix substandard rice into students’ nutritious meals.

According to the report, it was the first time a nationwide investigation was conducted on the food situation in primary and secondary school cafeterias, uncovering and handling 38,000 cases of embezzlement of students’ meal fees, involvement in bidding procurement, and receiving kickbacks, resulting in disciplinary actions against 23,000 individuals.

Investigators were dispatched to Longhui County, Hunan Province to probe into the cases of two former county party secretaries who accepted bribes and turned a blind eye to unscrupulous businesses mixing substandard rice into students’ nutritious meals.

This official disclosure marks the first time it was revealed that two former county party secretaries in Longhui County accepted bribes and overlooked the unethical practice of mixing substandard rice into students’ meals.

This year, both Wang Yonghong and Liu Jun, who served as consecutive county party secretaries in Longhui County, Hunan Province, have come under investigation.

Wang Yonghong held the post of county party secretary in Longhui County from 2018 to 2021, and concurrently served as a standing committee member of the Shaoyang Municipal Committee in 2020.

On April 15, Wang Yonghong, a standing committee member of the Shaoyang Municipal Committee and vice mayor, was investigated and subsequently expelled from the party on September 13.

Accusations against Wang Yonghong include engaging in profit-making activities in violation of regulations, holding shares in non-listed companies under others’ names, using his power for personal gain, participating in corrupt practices, illegally accepting large sums of money, and abusing his authority.

Liu Jun, who was the county head of Longhui County in 2016, took over as the county party secretary from Wang Yonghong in 2021.

On February 26 this year, Liu Jun, the county party secretary of Longhui County, was investigated and expelled from the party on July 31.

Liu Jun was accused of engaging in profit-making activities against regulations, using his influence for family gain, intervening in law enforcement and judicial activities, accepting excessively large bribes, abusing his power, and causing severe negative social impact through his actions.
