On the afternoon of December 21, a vicious dog attack occurred in Baqiao District, Xi’an. Four-year-old boy Zhang Yichuan was playing near the village entrance when he was severely bitten by two vicious dogs, receiving critical injuries and currently in the ICU with a life-threatening condition. In an attempt to evade responsibility, the dog owner killed the aggressive dogs and buried them to destroy evidence.
Zhang Yichuan’s father told Upstream News on the 23rd, “My child was declared critical as soon as he arrived at the hospital.” The critical notification issued by the hospital shows that the boy suffered multiple lacerations on his face, head, neck, and limbs, accompanied by other complications, posing imminent life-threatening risks.
Zhang Yichuan’s mother told “New Yellow River,” “The surgery lasted from 8 p.m. on the night of the incident until 6 a.m. the next day, involving over a dozen doctors from multiple departments in consultation and treatment, but as of now, our son remains unconscious in the ICU.”
According to doctors, “The previous week was a critical period, and the child has not yet passed the danger zone. The greatest risks accompanying his condition are rabies outbreak, infection, shock, and anemia. These are all fatal and uncontrollable factors because the wounds from dog bites are filled with dirt, leading to a high risk of infection.”
Both of Zhang Yichuan’s parents are migrant workers. They mentioned that their son will remain in the ICU for the next week, and there may be a need for a full-body blood transfusion, incurring significant costs. They not only lack funds for treatment but also require a large amount of Type A blood. The owners of the two vicious dogs have yet to show up and take responsibility.
According to Zhang Yichuan’s grandfather, there were three children present during the incident, with the oldest being his 9-year-old grandson. The grandson stated that the dogs ran out from a field, with both being black in color. When they saw the dogs, they were about to run, but one dog grabbed his younger brother. He crossed a roadside ditch to find his grandfather, while the dog continued to pull his brother. By the time the grandfather arrived at the scene, Zhang Yichuan had been dragged more than 10 meters away.
On the 24th, the Baqiao Sub-Bureau of Xi’an Public Security issued a notice stating that the dog owner who caused the injuries is 34-year-old Guo. Following the incident, Guo sent the dogs to another location to be killed and buried in an attempt to evade responsibility. A 42-year-old man named Zhang assisted Guo in concealing the truth and provided false evidence to the police. Both individuals have been criminally detained.
