According to local police in Germany, on Friday, December 20th, at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, a car crashed into a crowd, resulting in multiple injuries and causing people to flee in panic.
The police stated that a large-scale operation has been initiated at the Magdeburg Christmas market, which has now been closed.
Magdeburg is located about a two-hour drive west of Berlin.
According to information from the German public broadcaster MDR, the incident has led to at least one fatality and several injuries.
MDR reported that the suspected driver who rammed the crowd with the car has been arrested according to a government spokesperson.
Videos on social media show multiple individuals lying on the ground with rescue workers providing assistance.
The motive of the suspect is currently unclear.
Eight years ago, on December 19, 2016, another Christmas market in Germany was targeted in a terrorist attack, where a man drove a truck into a crowd, resulting in 13 fatalities and multiple injuries.
