The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China today (20th) released the “Analysis Report on the 25th Anniversary of Macau’s Transfer”. The report stated that this year Macau completed the sixth Chief Executive (CE) election, with the strong “China” color, where the President of the Court of Final Appeal, Sam Hou Fai, emerged, with “national security”, “patriotic rule of Macau” and “national overall interests first” becoming the main axis of Macau’s political operation. While the overall social situation in Macau is stable, concerns about the shrinking space for press freedom have emerged.
The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China stated that the international community continues to monitor the impact of the implementation of the “National Security Law” amendments on freedom and human rights in Macau. The United States continues to list Macau as one of the regions with the most serious human trafficking problems and restrict high-tech investments in Macau.
The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China emphasized, “After the epidemic, the exchange of personnel between Taiwan and Macau is showing a warming trend, demonstrating the continued importance of our Macau Office in serving the people of both sides. However, obstacles have been set up by the Macau government for the newly appointed personnel of our Macau Office to sign the ‘One China Commitment’, resulting in the inability to rotate personnel normally. The government will still strive to maintain service to the people and business operations.”
The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China stated, “We will continue to prioritize the well-being of the people, uphold pragmatic and mutually beneficial principles, promote healthy and orderly bilateral exchanges, and strive to maintain the functions of the office to serve the people; at the same time, we closely monitor changes in the situation, strengthen risk control, in order to safeguard national security and protect the rights of the people.”
